This medication is an antacid. Typically, it is used to help relieve symptoms of heartburn and indigestion. It may also be used as a calcium supplement. Its effects can be felt within a few minutes.

Instructions

This medication is typically used 4 times a day. However, your pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Generally, it is used only as needed.

The tablets must be chewed and swallowed with water. If you find the tablets too hard, crush them and mix them with a little water first. It is recommended to take this medication with water.

Side Effects

In addition to its desired action, this medication may cause some side effects, notably:

  • it may cause constipation -- to prevent this, drink plenty of water or juice, and eat more dietary fibre.
