This medication is typically used for the treatment of cystic acne. It may also have other uses. It requires a few weeks to take effect.

Instructions

This medication is typically used once or twice a day. However, your pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Take it regularly and continuously to maintain its beneficial effects.

It is not advisable to chew, crush or open the capsule of this medication since it may irritate your mouth and gastrointestinal tract. Avoid taking vitamin A supplements while using this medication.

If you forget a dose, take it as soon as you remember -- unless it is almost time for your next dose. In that case, skip the missed dose. Do not double the next dose to catch up. This medication is more effective if taken with food. Always take it with a meal or a snack.

Side Effects

In addition to its desired action, this medication may cause some side effects, notably:

  • it may cause dryness and peeling of the skin;
  • it may cause your lips to swell;
  • it may make your skin more sensitive to UV rays (e.g., sunlight, tanning lamps) - avoid exposure to UV rays as much as possible and protect yourself when out in the sun;
  • it may cause joint pain;
  • it may cause nasal dryness;
  • it may irritate your eyes.

Each person may react differently to a treatment. If you think this medication may be causing side effects (including those described here, or others), talk to your health care professional. He or she can help you to determine whether or not the medication is the source of the problem.

Storage

As with most medications, this product should be stored at room temperature. Store it in a secure location where it will not be exposed to excessive heat, moisture or direct sunlight. Make sure that any leftover portion is disposed of safely.

Additionnal Information

Taking this medication during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use two effective contraceptive methods beginning at least one month before treatment, during the treatment and for at least one month after the end of it. Ask your health care professional for details.

Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant, contact your family doctor.

Blood donation is usually refused during this treatment.
